You will find our kindergarten tucked down the long driveway right next to Rowley Primary School, and in the heart of our unique neighbourhood. We're proud to provide a programme for children aged 2 – 5 years where we foster a strong sense of belonging by encouraging children to show Manaakitanga- caring for each other, and Kaitiakitanga,  by caring for our environment. We encourage our children to be self-directing, creating their own challenges and being supported to achieve these. We have a strong Pasifika presence at our kindergarten, supported through language and culture woven into our programme every day.

Inside at Kidsfirst Hoon Hay there is an open, expansive and inspiring learning environment where tamariki participate in challenging and physically active play, along with an array of creative and sensory experiences. Tamariki here have freedom to explore, connect with other children, working alongside each other, making choices for play that engage them with the people, the places and the things of our environment and community.  We offer an inclusive programme that encourages risk-taking and supports the emergent interests of our tamariki.

Our beautifully designed big back yard offers adventure as well as many quiet spaces for the children to play in. We have many mature trees, native shrubs and plants offering natural shade. Our edible garden, lovingly tended by our tamariki and whānau, provides an abundance of produce which we use in the kindergarten with the children and share with whānau. Green grass, barked areas, areas to experience physical challenges such as climbing trees, and equipment specially designed to support children’s physical growth and development are features.

We support every child’s learning,  building on their interests, skills and abilities, and we value every person in this place as a teacher and learner.

You're always welcome here - community and connectedness are at the heart of what we do. We value the relationships we build with our whānau/families, and look forward to making new connections, embracing the multiculturalism and diversity of our community and the richness you bring to our programme as you share your skills, experiences, languages and culture too.

You’ll often see us out and about in our community, using the opportunity to help our tamariki make connections to  the wider community, and supporting them to make sense of their place in it. We have strong links with our local primary schools, which supports the transition to school for you and your child, as he/she moves on from Kindergarten.

We would recommend that you enrol initially for at least two full days – building up to five days at your child's pace.  This gives our teachers time to get to know your child and gives consistency around supporting their learning.

Nau mai, tauti mai - come in any time, we’ll show you around and make you welcome!

From time to time we have special offers, to enable more children to come to our not-for-profit, community kindergarten. But hurry, spaces are limited and these offers only apply for a limited time. Conditions apply.
