We've always raised the standards.

We have always prided ourselves on being leaders in early childhood education. We led the way with fully qualified teachers, we've been leaders in developing natural areas of play and we've always had a focus on creating the best environments for learning and development.
So in 2010, when Northcote Kindergarten became the first early childhood centre in New Zealand to be awarded Pa Harakeke - the top award from the Heart Foundation - as an organisation we couldn't have been prouder.
We've always known that to be leaders in ECE we have to keep working towards higher and higher standards of excellence. It was a task our early pioneers were up for, people like Ngaire Larcombe and Helena Hull, who achieved such huge steps in the development of kindergarten across the nation, and it's a task our kindergartens, teacher teams and whānau work on every single day.
Northcote Kindergarten's success is just one more example of what being a ECE leader looks like.
"A success story; a gallant story of the devoted work of many people for something which they thought worthwhile."
Dr C.E Beeby Director of Education in the 1940s.
