Kidsfirst Diamond Harbour Early Learning Centre was officially opened earlier this year – and by a very special guest…

We have been so excited to welcome Diamond Harbour Early Learning Centre into the Kidsfirst fold, the first to be built in over 22 years. It opened its doors to children on the 2nd of February but was officially opened on Thursday the 14th of May, by our Prime Minister John Key.

As the official opening was in the middle of a busy kindergarten day, it was just a small crowd who gathered, including Kidsfirst CE Sheryll Wilson.

As part of the proceedings and in Kidsfirst tradition, our esteemed guest John Key planted a Hebe tree, with a couple of the children lending a hand with their spades.

The Early Learning Centre is on the same site as the Diamond Harbour Primary school, which is fantastic for those inter-generational links. Being an Early Learning Centre it is open from 8:30am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday and throughout the year to cater for working parents.

It was the first of two new Kidsfirst Early Learning Centres set in motion in 2015 with Kidfirst Glacier Country, in Franz Josef on the West Coast, opened in July. Both were a chance to create purpose-built, interesting and inspiring places to learn and play with state-of the art-features for our next generations newest learners.

Very special guest, Prime Minister John Key, had the honour of officially opening Kidsfirst Diamond Harbour Early Learning Centre in May of this year.
