Kidsfirst Northcote's Daffodil Day
Daffodil Day has a very special place in the Kidsfirst calendar, and Kidsfirst Northcote decided to celebrate being '100 Years Young' by brightening up their kindy for the day.
Before Daffodil Day raised funds for The Cancer Society, freshly picked daffodils were grown out at a farm in Tai Tapu and sold in order to raise money for the kindys of Christchurch. The first Daffodil Day happened in 1911, and they occurred annually for over 50 years.
So in order to celebrate being 100 Years Young, not only were there 100 yellow daffodils popping up in different places in Kidsfirst Northcote, there were many yellow t-shirts and dresses, as well as yellow balloons decorating the kindy.
This celebration helped to make the concept of the number '100' into something that children at Kidsfirst Northcote could count, touch and experience, and also made it a beautifully bright place to be in.
KIDSFIRST KINDERGARTENS ARE A NOT FOR PROFIT ASSOCIATION THAT HAS DEVELOPED AND MAINTAINED KINDERGARTENS IN CHRISTCHURCH, CANTERBURY AND ON THE WEST COAST FOR OVER 100 YEARS - AS THE PLACE LOCAL KIDS COME TO LEARN, PLAY AND HAVE FUN.
Daffodils have played an important role in kindergarten's past.
For 100 Days of Kidsfirst, to celebrate our centenary, Kidsfirst Northcote collected up 100 daffodils.
