2 years to school age

You’ll find our kindergarten at the end of a quiet street in Mairehau, close to two local Primary schools.  Kidsfirst Kindergartens Mairehau is the place where lifelong friendships begin for children aged 2 – 5 years.  We deliver the New Zealand early childhood curriculum “Te Whāriki”, which strengthens early learning and lays a strong foundation for later success. Our teachers plan the programme and focus areas around the children and their whānau’s aspirations for them, with tamariki contributing to the planning process, giving them a sense of ownership and a voice.

You can feel the calm and friendly wairua (spirit) in our environment as you come in the door. Our kindergarten is light and warm, with tamariki's work adorning the walls. Outside, our playground is a lush, green and natural landscape with physical challenges and activities that capture the imagination, providing endless opportunities for your child’s curiosity and exploration.  It is our big, beautiful surprise in the backyard!

Our programme has a strong focus on social competency - getting along well with others, being able to form and maintain relationships, and responding in adaptive ways in social settings.

We're also strong in developing literacy, the arts, tamariki's physical prowess, and ways of interacting with and in the natural world - our place and responsibilities within it.

You're always welcome here! Parents and whānau contribute in many ways, including discussions about their aspirations for children, spending time with us in session, sharing their knowledge and strengths with kaiako/teachers and children and bringing a richness to our programme. If you have time you could join our Kindergarten parent group to plan and promote fundraising events – it’s a great way to meet and make friendships with others.  We have a close community with generations of families passing through our doors. We’re very proud of our connections with the wider educational community, particularly with the local Primary schools – supporting you when the time comes to transition to school.

We would recommend that you enrol initially for at least two full days – building up to five days at your child's pace.  This gives our teachers time to get to know your child and gives some consistency around supporting their learning.

Nau mai, tauti mai - come in anytime, we'll make you welcome!

From time to time we have special offers, to enable more children to come to our not-for-profit, community kindergarten. But hurry, spaces are limited and these offers only apply for a limited time. Conditions apply.
