Ready. Set – RIDE!
Scoot, trike or balance bike… there was no stopping these tamariki, rearing to go and ready to race at Kidsfirst Shirley’s fundraiser wheel-a-thon.
Wheel-a-thons are a longstanding - and fun - kindy tradition and something that the whole kindergarten community can get involved with.
They’re a great opportunity to get outdoors and alongside others in physical play, with a little healthy competition along the way!
“Our wheel-a-thon could finally go ahead after being rained off twice!” says teacher, Anita Stowell. “At last the sun was shining and we were racing.”
Parents came along to support, clap and cheer as children zoomed around the circuit, well on their way towards a certificate and lollipop in celebration of their achievement.
“It’s always a special occasion when family and whānau get together with us to enjoy an event such as this,” says Anita.
Community involvement is a huge part of the kindergarten experience, and we are always appreciative when parents and whānau give so generously of their time to join in and help out.
“The funds we raised will be put towards purchasing more balance bikes for our kindergarten,” says Kidsfirst Shirley's head teacher, Julie Brown, “bringing tamariki even more opportunities for lots more racing!”
Kei runga noa atu koe - absolutely fantastic!
