SOME OTHER STORIES...
Vintage Car Day, November 2013
at Kidsfirst Templeton
The 20th of November, 2013 saw a fleet of vintage cars traverse Christchurch, make their way to every Kidsfirst kindy in the Canterbury region.
The occasion was to acknowledge and celebrate 100 Years of Kidsfirst, and proved to be a huge success. Each car was driven by a passionate Vintage Car Club car owner who volunteered their time and vehicle to help Kidsfirst celebrate the centenary ... and each car carried a “special guest” to the kindy, someone who the kindy wanted to honour and thank.
As a way to help children see what life was like in the 'olden days', the cars came to the kindys. In amongst the excitement of the teachers, the children and their guests, photos were taken, seats were climbed, and, as always, horns were tooted!
It was a great way to remember how far Kidsfirst has come, and to look towards a bright and exciting future together.
Kidsfirst Templeton's special guest for Vintage Car Day was Dawn Hansen. Dawn was a part of the establishment committee for the Templeton kindergarten, used to teach there, and still works as a relieving teacher every so often. As if that wasn't enough connections, Dawn's "grandies" are also Kidsfirst kindy kids.
Dawn held a captivating mat time with the children, telling them about how she remembered what was here before the kindy - just a paddock of grass!
Dawn worked tirelessly to get Templeton Kidsfirst up and running, so that children didn't have to go all the way to Hornby to go to kindy. What a lovely way to honour her.
