SOME OTHER STORIES...
Vintage Car Day, November 2013
at Kidsfirst Selwyn Street
The 13th of November, 2013 saw a fleet of vintage cars traverse Christchurch and make their way to every Kidsfirst kindy in the Canterbury region.
The occasion was to acknowledge and celebrate 100 Years of Kidsfirst, and proved to be a huge success. Each car was driven by a passionate Vintage Car Club car owner who volunteered their time and vehicle to help Kidsfirst celebrate the centenary ... and each car carried a “special guest” to the kindy, someone who the kindy wanted to honour and thank.
As a way to help children see what life was like in the 'olden days', the cars came to the kindys. In amongst the excitement of the teachers, the children and their guests, photos were taken, seats were climbed, and, as always, horns were tooted!
It was a great way to remember how far Kidsfirst has come, and to look towards a bright and exciting future together.
Kidsfirst Selwyn Street had former head teacher Patricia Blatchford as the special visitor on Vintage Car Day. Trish has fond memories of her days at the kindergarten, and after her time teaching at Selwyn Street, she went on to be part of the Management Team of the Kidsfirst organisation.
After a warm welcome, the children gave Trish a tour of the kindergarten, both inside and out, and the teachers showed her all the changes to the building that were done over the last few years.
Trish gave a gift to the kindy and in return, they served her and her driver yummy scones which the children had made. The children absolutely loved the vintage cars, and it was a fantastic visit.
