Vintage Car Day, November 2013
at Kidsfirst Pitcairn Crescent

The 20th of November, 2013 saw a fleet of vintage cars traverse Christchurch and make their way to every Kidsfirst kindy in the Canterbury region.
The occasion was to acknowledge and celebrate 100 Years of Kidsfirst, and proved to be a huge success. Each car was driven by a passionate Vintage Car Club car owner who volunteered their time and vehicle to help Kidsfirst celebrate the centenary...and each car carried a “special guest” to their destination, someone who the kindy wanted to honour and thank.
The cars really helped children to see what life was like in the 'olden days'. In amongst the excitement of the teachers, the children and their guests, photos were taken, seats were climbed, and, as always, horns were tooted!
It was a great way to remember how far Kidsfirst has come, and to look towards a bright and exciting future together.
If you look very closely at this photo, you can not only see Kidsfirst Pitcairn Crescent’s special guest who dressed up especially for the Vintage Car Day, but you can also see the two vintage cars that brought her there. Keighlee Baker is the daughter of the teacher aide that helps out at the kindergarten, and dressed up especially for the Vintage Car Day at the kindy.
She arrived in style and shared a morning tea with the children using old-fashioned china. Sue Downey-Clarke, one of the teachers, said that the girls were particularly fascinated with the hoops in Keighlee’s skirt. Sue remarked, “I’m very glad I don’t have to wear dresses like that now – Keighlee had to plan how to sit down on the little kindergarten chairs because her hoops got in the way!”
