SOME OTHER STORIES...
Vintage Car Day, November 2013
at Kidsfirst Phillipstown
The 13th of November, 2013 saw a fleet of vintage cars traverse Christchurch and make their way to every Kidsfirst kindy in the Canterbury region.
The occasion was to acknowledge and celebrate 100 Years of Kidsfirst, and proved to be a huge success. Each car was driven by a passionate Vintage Car Club car owner who volunteered their time and vehicle to help Kidsfirst celebrate the centenary...and each car carried a “special guest” to their destination, someone who the kindy wanted to honour and thank.
The cars really helped children to see what life was like in the 'olden days'. In amongst the excitement of the teachers, the children and their guests, photos were taken, seats were climbed, and, as always, horns were tooted!
It was a great way to remember how far Kidsfirst has come, and to look towards a bright and exciting future together.
However, something wasn’t quite right...some of the children spotted a zip in the elephant’s skin!
Together, they managed to solve the mystery about who was under the suit: Tim Eden-Calcott, one of the kindergarten teachers, had dressed up in the outfit, and what a lovely surprise the children got. There were hugs and high-fives all round. Tim also brought 100 windmills for the children to make up for the Founders Day next week.
Not only did they get the official visit from the Canterbury Vintage Car Club, but a generous parent let the kindergarten have the loan of his 1926 Chrysler for the day. Best of all, the children had permission to climb, clamber and explore to their hearts' content. Isn't that just what kindergarten is about?
