Celebrating a passion for kindy...
Kidsfirst Ngaire Larcombe was opened in November 1977.
“With the opening of Mathers Road and Ngaire Larcombe, the number of kindergartens in the Association has risen to forty-eight.”
Carol Eggleston, Supervising Head Teacher, Annual Report 1977.
The kindergarten had been named after Ngaire Larcombe who was a tireless worker for our kindergarten association for a great many years.
Shirley Barton, another strong voice from our past, wrote in the Kindergarten Chronicle that...
"A year after I became a Council member, Ngaire Larcombe, who I'd known as the very confident and enthusiastic Delegate from Papanui Kindergarten, was elected to the Council. Alone and unaided, she did an amazing job with the raffle for years. Later she became President of the Association."
