SOME OTHER STORIES...
Vintage Car Day, November 2013
at Kidsfirst Mt Pleasant
The 13th of November, 2013 saw a fleet of vintage cars traverse Christchurch and make their way to every Kidsfirst kindy in the Canterbury region.
The occasion was to acknowledge and celebrate 100 Years of Kidsfirst, and proved to be a huge success. Each car was driven by a passionate Vintage Car Club car owner who volunteered their time and vehicle to help Kidsfirst celebrate the centenary... and each car carried a “special guest” to their destination, someone who the kindy wanted to honour and thank.
The cars really helped children to see what life was like in the 'olden days'. In amongst the excitement of the teachers, the children and their guests, photos were taken, seats were climbed, and, as always, horns were tooted!
It was a great way to remember how far Kidsfirst has come, and to look towards a bright and exciting future together.
The 'Mother of the Church' (in the words of the children) came calling at Kidsfirst Mt Pleasant as their special guest for the Vintage Car Day. The children loved seeing Vicar Mary Giles, who read them a old-fashioned version of 'The Three Bears'.
The Kidsfirst Mt Pleasant time capsule that they had made was full of interesting treasures: a plaster-cast golden hand of the kindergarten's eldest girl, a CD with songs composed at the kindergarten, children's stories and art work, parent stories, a modern day chippie packet, and a toy car.
On the morning of Mary's visit, the children had fun playing with toys from the past: marbles, chalk on the concrete, drawing, the old fashioned gramophone - (along with wonderful music!), spinning tops and books.
KIDSFIRST KINDERGARTENS ARE A NOT FOR PROFIT ASSOCIATION THAT HAS DEVELOPED AND MAINTAINED KINDERGARTENS IN CHRISTCHURCH, CANTERBURY AND ON THE WEST COAST FOR OVER 100 YEARS - AS THE PLACE LOCAL KIDS COME TO LEARN, PLAY AND HAVE FUN.
