SOME OTHER STORIES...
Vintage Car Day, November 2013
at Kidsfirst Lincoln
The 20th of November, 2013 saw a fleet of vintage cars traverse Christchurch and make their way to every Kidsfirst kindy in the Canterbury region.
The occasion was to acknowledge and celebrate 100 Years of Kidsfirst, and proved to be a huge success. Each car was driven by a passionate Vintage Car Club car owner who volunteered their time and vehicle to help Kidsfirst celebrate the centenary... and each car carried a “special guest” to their destination, someone who the kindy wanted to honour and thank.
The cars really helped children to see what life was like in the 'olden days'. In amongst the excitement of the teachers, the children and their guests, photos were taken, seats were climbed, and, as always, horns were tooted!
It was a great way to remember how far Kidsfirst has come, and to look towards a bright and exciting future together.
Kidsfirst Lincoln's special person was Lindsay Phelps, who has had three boys through the kindergarten, and although his eldest is 25, he STILL comes back to help out with odd jobs around the place. He built the deck that the children have lunch outside on, extended the sandpit, and cleared the path to the gate to make it easier for prams.
"I'm just a big kid at heart," Lindsay admits. He loves his time with the children so much that he makes them their own tools so that they can get involved, without getting hurt.
KIDSFIRST KINDERGARTENS ARE A NOT FOR PROFIT ASSOCIATION THAT HAS DEVELOPED AND MAINTAINED KINDERGARTENS IN CHRISTCHURCH, CANTERBURY AND ON THE WEST COAST FOR OVER 100 YEARS - AS THE PLACE LOCAL KIDS COME TO LEARN, PLAY AND HAVE FUN.
As part of the 100 Days of Kidsfirst,
the Canterbury Vintage Car Club put a fleet of vintage cars on the road to visit our kindergartens.
