Indoors, tamariki aged 2-5 years can access a range of resources that are carefully and intentionally presented to ignite thinking and exploration. Learning occurs in all spaces at the child’s pace, acknowledging the mana, wairua and mauri our tamariki bring when they come to us. Tamariki are encouraged to be mindful of and inspired by the world around them, and respectful of the environment they play and learn in.

Our vast outdoor area is abundant with native plants, climbing trees and our treasured vegetable gardens complete with composting and worms farms. The playground offers children the freedom to explore and engage with the natural world outside, in all weather, nurturing each child’s ability to begin to understand the complexity and wonder of the world they live in, and enhance their connections with nature.

At Kidsfirst Hawea we encourage tamariki to have a voice in the way the programme operates – our tamariki know their thinking is valued, and they know and trust this is a place of learning where their interests, skills and abilities will be acknowledged and supported in ongoing learning experiences.  Our tamariki feel they belong to a place where play is valued as “real work”.

You're always welcome here -  we have a collaborative learning community, where whānau/ families are viewed as significant partners, and included along our early learning journey. Community and connectedness are at the heart of what we do, and we have strong links with our local primary school, which supports the transition to school for you and your child, as he/she moves on from Kindergarten.

We would recommend that you enrol initially for at least two full days –building up to five days at your child's pace. This gives us, the teachers time to get to know your child and provides consistency around supporting their learning.

Nau mai, tauti mai - come in any time, we are very proud of our unique learning environment and would love to show you around.  Kidsfirst Kindergartens Hawea is a wonderful place to learn!
