Glacier guide visit.
Helping to inspire a love for the great outdoors was this glacier guide duo, who visited Kidsfirst Glacier Country to give a demonstration of their work to tamariki and kaiako.
FIND OUT WHY WE'RE JUST BETTER BECAUSE...
Kidsfirst Glacier Country tamariki soon learnt that a sturdy ice pick, a helmet, ropes and harnesses are essential for navigating the often icy, rocky conditions throughout the Westland Tai Poutini National Park.
“The guides gave us a fantastic demonstration of all the hard work they do up at the Franz Josef Glacier / Kā Roimata o Hine Hukatere,” says teacher, Kirsten Hollings.
“Children loved watching them dig over our playground bark with their ice picks and swinging suspended from the sandpit roof with their ropes and harnesses.”
We may have some keen future explorers here by the looks!
