Kindergarten oasis in rural Canterbury.
Kaiapoi North Kindergarten was opened as Charles St Kindergarten on the 1st of November 1954, but it was a change of location due to the Canterbury Earthquakes that saw the kindergarten become known as Kaiapoi North in 2011.
Kidsfirst Kaiapoi North is a great example of one of our more rural kindergartens. Being based in the country, there are a few
different attitudes or practices from those centers in Christchurch
city, but regardless of the location, the fundamentals of
kindergarten teaching remain the same.

Those fundamentals come back to the 'little people' who are quite literally at the heart of our organisation. Whether its in Christchurch, in Kaiapoi, in 1911 or 2013, Kidsfirst and our fully qualified staff are determined to do what is best for each child's development and learning.
One way Kidsfirst Kaiapoi North has shown this commitment is through their creativity and innovation in the playground. See the photo below of the row boat situated in the kindergarten's outdoor area. The project was a labour of love by many of the kindergarten staff, children and wider community and has moved with them through their relocation.
It's projects like this that show the difference of fully qualified and dedicated, enthusiastic teaching staff that Kidsfirst so proudly calls for.
Our website uses material from the Canterbury Westland Kindergarten Association's own archives, Kindergarten Chronicles and other CWFKA publications, and those sourced from the kindys themselves.
