Inspiring and always striving to do more
OUR TOP STORIES:
Kidsfirst Kindergartens Hargest Crescent won the Inspiring Award 2015, for the Kidsfirst At Our Hearts Awards celebrated at the AGM in May.
The judges said that this kindergarten is a hidden gem. The team take pride in ensuring they create a home-like environment for the children and their whānau so that it is a safe place for them to be and so they develop a sense of belonging. The team have an emphasis on creating an inspiring environment using natural resources and lots of plantings with native bush and trees.
The Kidsfirst Hargest Crescent team are incredibly good at ensuring they reflect the cultures and values of their learning community. As a result of this the whānau and children have a sense of pride and ownership in their learning environment. The team here really inspire and extend childrens learning and as a result, many teachers go to visit this kindergarten to get ideas on how they can make their own kindergartens inspiring.

The teaching team at Kidsfirst Hargest Crescent comprises of two, more mature, experienced teachers and the third teacher is one of the newest members to Kidsfirst. What is inspiring is that they have all embraced the challenges of keeping up to date with pedagogy (teaching methods) - they don’t run away from it.
An example of this would be at the last ERO visit which was at the end of last year. The team heard what the national focus was for ERO. They decided to carry out a mini spontaneous review on maths so that they would be able to articulate and demonstrate what that would look like in their environment. As a result, ERO complimented them and said that, "they were exemplary in the way they provided maths in the environment holistically for the children and what a rich language of maths there was."
For the teaching team at Kidsfirst Hargest Cresent, the 2015 Inspiring Award was both a motivator and a chance to reflect on their own philosophy. Head Teacher, Robin McGregor says, “Inspiring is a value that touches everyone – kaiako and tamariki. It is a catalyst for children to use their imagination, creativity and wonderment to make their own discoveries. We were grateful to be recognised professionally for the effort our team makes to engage learning, and we continue to put effort into how we present our daily programme as an inspiring environment.”
Congratulations to the Inspiring team at Kidsfirst Hargest Crescent.
