Inspiring and always striving to do more
OUR TOP STORIES:
Kidsfirst Kindergartens Lincoln received a highly commended in the Inspiring Award 2015, for the Kidsfirst At Our Hearts Awards celebrated at the AGM in May.
The judges said that the Lincoln team are highly motivated, focussed and inspirational on many levels. Their ako approach to teaching and learning is empowering and enabling for all in their community.
In depth review has supported teachers to reflect deeply on pedagogy (teaching methods), conversations, metacognition (awareness and understanding of ones thought processes) and revealing and growing childrens working theories. Teachers have videoed each other to enable a deeper reflection and team discussion.
The team has arranged visits to the local Mahoe reserve in order to be in nature, to the 'Stand Tall' giraffe project as well as projects within the community to care for local reserves and waterways. The kindergarten have also built a whare, since named Tawhiri Matea, made a scarecrow, and more recently created a 'dark space' from the children's enquiry into “What is darkness”.
Ongoing 'world around us' education for sustainability is also a priority in this kindergarten as the teaching team are always striving to learn more and do more. The team regularly inspire others in the Kidsfirst whānau and wider early childhood networks with presentations of their work.
Congratulations to the Inspiring Kidsfirst Lincoln team.
