SOME OTHER STORIES...
Vintage Car Day, November 2013 at Kidsfirst Hei Hei
The 13th of November, 2013 saw a fleet of vintage cars traverse Christchurch and make their way to every Kidsfirst kindy in the Canterbury region.
The occasion was to acknowledge and celebrate 100 Years of Kidsfirst, and proved to be a huge success. Each car was driven by a passionate Vintage Car Club car owner who volunteered their time and vehicle to help Kidsfirst celebrate the centenary...and each car carried a “special guest” to their destination, someone who the kindy wanted to honour and thank.
The cars really helped children to see what life was like in the 'olden days'. In amongst the excitement of the teachers, the children and their guests, photos were taken, seats were climbed and, as always, horns were tooted!
It was a great way to remember how far Kidsfirst has come, and to look towards a bright and exciting future together.
Above is Kidsfirst Hei Hei's special guest, Deana McIlwrick, who is affectionately known to those at the kindy as 'Kindy Nana'.
She helped at the kindergarten for 29 years, first as a cleaner, then as a teacher aide. Having her as their special guest for Vintage Car Day was the perfect way to thank her for her hard work at the kindy, and dedication to the children.
