You’ll find our Kindergarten right next to the Bush St Reserve, where our children can chat to our friendly locals and watch the Rangiora buses go by.
Our skilled and experienced teaching team is proud to provide a programme for children aged 2 – 5 years where we foster a strong sense of belonging. We do this by encouraging children to show Manaakitanga- caring for each other, and Kaitiakitanga, caring for our environment. We encourage our children to be self-directing, creating their own challenges and being supported to achieve these. We’re here to support children’s learning, their interests, skills and abilities, acknowledging and valuing every person in this place as a teacher and learner. This supports the tikanga principle of ako: the educator is also learning from the child, and that the learner and whānau cannot be separated.
Our indoor space is light and warm. The environment inside has areas set up for children to explore and engage in play experiences with and alongside each other. Children can choose from a wide range of resources and equipment: there are quiet, creative and imaginative play areas. Learning occurs in all spaces at the child’s pace.
A calm, yet busy environment exists in our outside spaces. Green grass, barked areas, gardens, areas to experience physical challenges such as climbing trees, and equipment specially designed to support children’s physical growth and development are features. Tamariki choose from and learn to use a range of real resources such as saws, hammers, nails, gardening equipment, spades and shovels. In using this equipment, they learn about managing risk and making safe choices for meaningful play. Our backyard space excites curiosity with natural discoveries, changing seasons and the insects and birds which reside here. We also have a frog and bird who are cared for by the tamariki and whānau.
At Kidsfirst Kindergartens Bush St we have a collaborative learning community, where whānau/ families are viewed as significant partners, and included along our early learning journey. We have an ‘open door’, approach, and whānau are welcome to stay at any time - community and connectedness is important here. It’s at the heart of what we do. We feed to a wide catchment of primary schools and have links with our nearby schools, which supports the transition to school for you and your child, as he/she moves on from Kindergarten.
You’ll see us out and about as we explore the area with local walks and visits to the neighbouring Bush St reserve, and our tamariki enjoy regular visits from locals like Eco Educate and the Rangiora Library staff.
Bush St Kindergarten operates for six hours each day, from 8.30am – 2.30pm. This works really well if you have older children going to school as you can do the drop offs and pick-ups at the same time. We would recommend that you enrol for at least two full days –building up to five days. This gives our teachers time to get to know your child and provides consistency around supporting their learning.
Come in any time, we are very proud of our unique learning environment and would love to show you around. Kidsfirst Kindergartens Bush St is a wonderful place to learn!
