Kidsfirst Kindergartens Woolley St is a little oasis tucked away in the heart of Avondale surrounded by wide open, natural spaces. We have a strong sense of community here, and a beautiful setting for children aged from 2- 5 years to learn and grow from.
Our programme caters for all children’s interests and encourages growth and development for children to become competent, confident learners, healthy in mind, body and spirit. We have a strong bi-cultural focus and encourage our learners to engage in, and learn from, the environment. Every day we foster your child’s curiosity, imagination and development of knowledge through play, creativity and exploration. Our skilled and experienced teaching team passionately support children’s learning, their interests, skills and abilities. We acknowledge and value every person in this place as a teacher and learner. This supports the tikanga principle of ako: the educator is also learning from the child, and that the learner and whānau cannot be separated.
Our spacious and leafy outdoor setting provides lots of opportunities to explore – there are amazing trees that protect us from the elements of the weather and which house a natural array of birds, bugs and insects.
We are very proud of the welcoming, supportive environment that we offer and that you, our whānau, will become a part of. Your family will soon develop a strong sense of belonging here at Woolley St. Our community events are always well supported and whānau often stay to be involved in session, supporting the kindergarten and contributing by bringing in kai for morning tea, (and for the kindergarten rabbit), and sometimes helping out by fixing equipment or sourcing new wood for our carpentry area. A real sense of Whanaungatanga (family connection) is established here.
We have built great relationships with our local schools – we take children on visits to new entrant classrooms and support the transition to school process for you and your child. We regularly take our tamariki on walks into the community to visit the local playground, explore the red zone and to have picnics in the park – you’ll see us out and about with our hi-vis vests on!
Our kindergarten operates for six hours each day, from 8.30am – 2.30pm. This works really well if you have older children going to school as you can do the drop offs and pick-ups at the same time. We would recommend that you enrol for at least two full days – building up to five days. This gives our teachers time to get to know your child and gives some consistency around supporting their learning. It’s hard for our teachers to do this with just a few hours here and there.
Come in any time – we’ll show you around and make you welcome!
