Our Session Times
Your child can come to our kindergarten for up to 6 hours a day, Monday to Friday, during our 4 kindergarten terms.
You can read more here about what's been happening in our archive of stories about Kidsfirst Kindergartens, the fun we have, the processes and learning outcomes that result and why we're such a great start for your child.

NAU MAI, TAUTI MAI, HAERE MAI • WELCOME!
You will find our kindergarten in a quiet side street off Lincoln Road in Hillmorton, close to Spreydon and West Spreydon Primary Schools.
At Kidsfirst Kindergartens Hillmorton our programme is play-based and initiated by and for children aged 2 – 5 years, giving children a sense of ownership and a voice. Our skilled, passionate and experienced Teachers provide a range of provocations such as displays, discussions, items of interest, excursions and visitors to engage and inspire learning for our children.
We place a strong emphasis on sustainability, and our natural environment plays a large part in our daily programme – supporting the children to develop eco-awareness and to understand their role. We passionately support children’s learning, their interests, skills and abilities and acknowledge and value every person in our kindergarten as a teacher and learner. This supports the tikanga principle of ako: the educator is also learning from the child, that the learner and whānau cannot be separated.
Outside we have a classic kiwi big backyard with lots of natural shade from two wonderful big oak trees, providing challenges and endless opportunities for curiosity and exploration. The area is planted in natives - with a vegetable garden, Monarch butterfly house and bug motel for children to explore, adventure and learn in.
Inside many spaces are created for your child’s individual interests. Through dramatic play, music and dance, creative and visual arts, sensory play, construction and design, we will support your child to build relationships with other children and adults, practise sharing and co-operation with others, problem-solve, persist and not give up. Your child will become independent (but not afraid to ask for help), will develop language, literacy and numeracy skills, learn about promoting sustainability, and become culturally aware and confident.
Relationships with whanau are very important to us and we have an open door policy for you to stay and play whenever you can. We value time spent in our kindergarten sharing your skills, culture and experiences with our tamariki.
On Tuesday mornings from 9.30a.m until 11.00a.m we have Playgroup. This is a time for parents with younger children to come into the session, learn what kindergarten is all about, and meet other parents while the children start to explore the kindergarten environment. Our kindergarten children love being role models to the younger visitors!
We’re handy to Spreydon and West Spreydon Primary Schools and have grown strong partnerships with these schools including visits both ways to support you and your child in the transition to school. You’ll see us out and about in our community every week, whether it’s at the Mobile Library Bus, the local Rest Homes or Primary Schools, or in the park – there’s lots of local, exciting places where learning happens!
Our kindergarten operates for six hours each day, from 8.45am – 2.45pm. This works really well if you have older children going to school as you can do the drop offs and pick-ups at the same time.
We would recommend that you enrol for at least two full days – building up to five days. This gives our teachers time to get to know your child and gives some consistency around supporting their learning. It’s hard for our teachers to do this with just a few hours here and there.
Come in any time – we’ll show you around and make you welcome!
