Congratulations to former Kidsfirst Sunbeam kindy kid Catherine and her team mate Johanna (right) who scooped two prizes in ‘Evolocity’ – the environmentally friendly, sustainable vehicle competition...
OUR TOP STORIES
Evolocity engages teams of students in designing and building an electric vehicle around a supplied electric motor componentry kit. The competition focus is on performance, innovative technology, best in show and links to sustainability.
Catherine and Johanna are now at Avonside Girls High School and created their awesome tech savvy electric car ‘Bolt’ as part of Hard Material Technology class.
It was the first time the school had entered the competition - up against mostly other boys high schools! Bedazzled with gold paint and tassels ‘Bolt’ definitely stood out from the other dark-coloured entries!
Come competition day though, Catherine was unable to take Bolt for a spin as with a crash helmet on she was too tall and couldn’t fit under the roll bars! So back-up driver Johana took the wheel for the race to victory!
Kidsfirst Birmingham Drive’s, Chandra Parkinson is one proud mum, “our girls entry won Best street circuit (thanks to excellent steering design and maneuverability) and Best in show - for their gold bling!”
Kidsfirst CE Sherryll Wilson thinks Chandra’s daughter Catherine and friend Johanna’s entry is super stylish, “I love the framework and the colour…see what imagination can do…and the right background in attending one of our kindy’s of course!”
