OUR TOP STORIES:
Kidsfirst Kindergartens Queenspark received a highly commended in the Engaged Award 2015, for the Kidsfirst At Our Hearts Awards celebrated at the AGM in May.
The judges said that Kidsfirst Queenspark have strengthened their community involvement in their kindergarten and have led changes within the local primary school to support the transition of children and families/whānau to school. The work they have been doing in relation to 'Transition to School' with the local primary school has created another successful link with the community.
There are fantastic connections within Kidsfirst Queenspark families/whānau, the kindergarten and school children and both teaching teams. These strong connections are evident in the invitations the kindergarten children have to attend school activities and vice versa. The school children love to come and work with the kindergarten children on a regular basis and recently enjoyed a concert put on by the little ones for parents and whānau of Kidsfirst Queenspark.
The team are happy to share their learning and ways of being with colleagues, students and members of their learning cluster. They quickly take up opportunties for learning that are available from within their immediate and wider community. Parents and whānau are happy and excited to share their expertise with the children and the team.
The Kidsfirst Queenspark team are continually willing to challenge themselves and extend the childrens - and their own - learning. This was evident through the amazing learning that took place as they organised a Marae visit and how family/whānau became so engaged in this wonderful learning opportunity. There was such positive feedback from both the Marae and from the parents and whānau about what a moving and amazing experience it was.
The families/whānau and community were also involved in Kidsfirst Queensparks amazing art exhibition and auction, and with the use of technology, families and whānau from far and wide were included in this event, even with artwork being sent from grandparents overseas for the auction.
The team have utilised the local reserve as an amazing space to learn more about nature as well as all the learning opportunties the Giraffe “kia kaha” citywide campaign offered. This led to children planning and designing their own giraffe, families/whānau got involved in the “giraffe hunt” across the city and children shared their photos and family fun with everyone at the kindergarten. Kidsfirst Queenspark has a team who embrace engagement – with people, places, opportunites, ideas and our heritage.
Congratulations to the Engaged team at Kidsfirst Queenspark.
