Working together for a common good.
Cotswold Ave Kindergarten opened on the 19th of February 1969 and like all of our kindergartens, was formed from the hard work and cooperation of active community members.
Committees have played an important role in establishing and running the Association's kindergartens for much of the last century.
The above photograph captures the large and dedicated group of the Cotswold Kindergarten Committee from 1970-1979.
As the Association guidelines then read...
"In general practice a local committee is asked to find the necessary money to build, equip, maintain and furnish the kindergarten. It is assisted in this task by voluntary donations from parents and by subsidy grants from the Department of Education on all approved initial equipment and furniture."
While over the years government grants and subsidies would be introduced, it has always been the ability of communities to rally together to support our kindergartens, that has seen our organisation grow in the tough times.
Our website uses material from the Canterbury Westland Kindergarten Association's own archives, Kindergarten Chronicles and other CWFKA publications, and those sourced from the kindys themselves. Unless otherwise noted, we believe all photographs are those of the kindergarten association and sincerely apologise if we have used any images inadvertently, without appropriate credits or permissions. If so, please advise us so we can rectify the situation.
