SOME OTHER STORIES...
Vintage Car Day, November 2013
at Kidsfirst Burnham
The 20th of November, 2013 saw a fleet of vintage cars traverse Christchurch and make their way to every Kidsfirst kindy in the Canterbury region.
The occasion was to acknowledge and celebrate 100 Years of Kidsfirst, and proved to be a huge success. Each car was driven by a passionate Vintage Car Club car owner who volunteered their time and vehicle to help Kidsfirst celebrate the centenary...and each car carried a “special guest” to their destination, someone who the kindy wanted to honour and thank.
The cars really helped children to see what life was like in the 'olden days'. In amongst the excitement of the teachers, the children and their guests, photos were taken, seats were climbed and, as always, horns were tooted!
It was a great way to remember how far Kidsfirst has come, and to look towards a bright and exciting future together.
The lucky children at Kidsfirst Burnham were allowed a lot more than just a look when Canterbury Vintage Car Club members Colin and Graeme showed up with their special guest and two vintage cars! They were absolutely fascinated by the shiny wheels of the cars.
Kidsfirst Burnham's special guest was New World Rolleston's Roy Bridgman, who is incredibly supportive of the kindergarten, according to Head Teacher Birgit Bracewell. Roy has sponsored events throughout the year, he backs the kindergartens tea towel and wheel-a-thon fundraisers, and often puts Kidsfirst Burnham forward as a deserving organisation for other sources of funding he is connected to.
Kindys would not be the truly awesome places that they are today if it were not for people like Roy. What an awesome way for Kidsfirst Burnham to say thank you to Roy for his support.
KIDSFIRST KINDERGARTENS ARE A NOT FOR PROFIT ASSOCIATION THAT HAS DEVELOPED AND MAINTAINED KINDERGARTENS IN CHRISTCHURCH, CANTERBURY AND ON THE WEST COAST FOR OVER 100 YEARS - AS THE PLACE LOCAL KIDS COME TO LEARN, PLAY AND HAVE FUN.
As part of the 100 Days of Kidsfirst,
the Canterbury Vintage Car Club put a fleet of vintage cars on the road to visit our kindergartens.
