| We are so very proud to welcome Kidsfirst Niu ELC to our extended family.
"Since taking over from the Tonga Canterbury Community Trust we have been working hard with the teaching team to ensure the continuation of this unique Tongan ECE centre located at Linwood North School," says Kidsfirst Business Development Manager, Jenny Pitama.
Kidsfirst are committed to preserving and promoting the special wairua (spirit) of the centre’s Niu philosophy to nurture the Tongan language and culture and deliver quality early childhood education.
The Pasifika family and community values of respect, leadership, service, belonging, spirituality, family, love, inclusion and reciprocal relationships dovetail with Kidsfirst’s own values.
“Kidsfirst Niu ELC is a very special place, as a centre for the preservation and regeneration of Tongan culture and language in Christchurch," says Jenny.
"Our organisation is excited to move into Pasifika Education, and we’ll be guided by the Tongan community to ensure we provide the very best for the Tongan families of Christchurch."
Having Niu ELC in our network will also provide invaluable opportunities for teachers in other Kidsfirst settings to experience and learn about the Pacific world first-hand.

We give a very warm welcome to Kidsfirst Niu Early Learning Centre. The Pasifika family values, culture, language - and the name chosen by the Tongan community ‘Niu’ - proudly remain.
In the Pacific Islands it is the coconut (niu) tree that sustains the whole village with food, shelter and clothing - symbolic of this centre's philosophy. |
