| Twice a year Kidsfirst Shirley visit Windsor Care, a local rest home for the elderly, to share songs, baking and conversation with the residents.
“This term for the first time, we invited the residents to visit us,” says Head Teacher, Janette Bowen. “Nine women arrived by minivan, accompanied by their carers - most were over ninety years of age, and one was ninety-eight!”
To the delight of their guests, the children had baked fruit scones and ginger loaf to share. The visitors also took great interest as the children shared their work and profile books with them.
“The highlight was when one child, Elikai, spontaneously threw his arms around a resident to give her a hug,” adds Janette.
Seriously heartwarming.
