A network of support.
The 1960s saw a period of growth for the organisation with kindergartens like Wigram becoming part of the Association.
Wigram Kindergarten joined the Canterbury Westland Free Kindergarten Association on the 24th of April 1968.
The strength of our Association was evident to smaller or independent kindergartens that were working hard to maintain their presence in the face of meager resources and funding.
A strong organisation such as Kidsfirst, today offers so much more, particularly in the way of Head Office support. It's amazing to think back and wonder how many of these kindergartens created and sustained themselves for many years on share determination, good will and the resources of local families and businesses.
We are fortunate today to have such a large strong network and it's something Kidsfirst is immensely proud of. With a network of 62 kindergartens across Canterbury and the West Coast, we have ample opportunity to share resources, ideas and most importantly be there for support when any one of our kindergartens needs it the most.
With connections this strong and roots this deep, we know Kidsfirst has what it needs to be around for another 100 years.
Our website uses material from the Canterbury Westland Kindergarten Association's own archives, Kindergarten Chronicles and other CWFKA publications, and those sourced from the kindys themselves. Unless otherwise noted, we believe all photographs are those of the kindergarten association and sincerely apologise if we have use any images inadvertently, without appropriate credits or permissions. If so, please advise us so we can rectify the situation..
