SOME OF OUR TOP STORIES
Kidsfirst Shirley were delighted to attend a teddy bears picnic set in the beautiful grounds of historic homestead, Avebury House (Evelyn Couzins Ave) on the edge of the River Road Red Zone...
“As part of our self-review this year we are exploring and gaining an understanding of our local community, the red zones and how we can contribute positively to it,” says Teacher, Rebecca Dulieu.
“Our relationship within the community has continued to grow, throughout the year. We have great connections with Avebury House, attend community meetings there and enjoy time contributing to the community garden (link).”
At the picnic, the lovely hosts of Avebury house offered the children (and their bears!) honey sandwiches and teddy bear shortbread, as well as a fun train ride around the empty sections of the red zone.
“Our children gained more of an understanding about belonging to part of a wider community and how we can be a part of the community in a fun way,” says Rebecca.
“As we learn more about and explore our local community, we want to encourage our Kidsfirst Shirley children to contribute to, and feel proud to be a part of a community of helpers, that support wonderful initiatives like this.”
