To cool down on a hot day, the children at Kidsfirst Selwyn Street have been making a splash on their slippery water slide.
“The children kept asking me what we were going to do for water play…and it was decided that a slippery slide would be the next water play fun,” says Teacher, Euan Scrivener. The orange and blue water slide adds a splash of colour to their lawn and it’s a complete a hit with the children. They splosh, slide, skid and race their way down it’s length, enjoying the cooling spray.

With help from a parent on the hose to spray water along the slide, Euan will often ‘launch’ the children into slide stratosphere. He’ll hold their hands, take a few steps run up and let go to blast off with a whoop! Euan adds, “To be honest it feels a lot like ten pin bowling.”
It’s great to see all the fun and exciting things children get up to during a Kidsfirst day. | DID YOU KNOW...?
Children naturally seek out fun, but sometimes adults need some gentle persuasion...or the worlds longest water slide! The World's Longest Inflatable Water Slide was built right here in New Zealand! It stretches for 600 metres and - while not for children - thrill-seeking grown ups can reach speeds of 50-70 km an hour. The Live More Awesome Foundation built the slide, thanks to fundraising and crowdsourcing, to raise awareness for mental illness and to promote 'getting out and having some fun.' |
