Kidsfirst King Street are settling in nicely to their temporary premises, the local Southbrook Community Sports Club Rooms in Rangiora - while the builders are strengthening and renovating their kindergarten building.

“Enjoying the change of scene and getting to know our new community is the fun bit,” says Kidsfirst King Street Head Teacher, Jocelyn Cameron.

There’s a new playground to explore and discovery walks around the rugby fields - while all the crunchy, colourful autumn leaves are just perfect for a friendly leaf throwing fight!

It’s fun to watch nearby model plane enthusiasts pilot their remote controlled crafts or - on Fridays - a local friendly game of petangue. And everyday a friendly Welsh corgi named ‘Basil,’ trots past to pay the kids a visit.

An added bonus is they are now just a hop, skip and a jump from Kidsfirst Bush Street kindergarten.

“So there’ll be opportunities for tamariki to get together for learning, fun and laughter,” says Jocelyn.

Kidsfirst Kindergartens Business Development Manager, Jenny Pitama explains, “Initially it was not easy to find a place to move to, but we were lucky to have the help of the Waimakariri Mayor David Ayres, who suggested the Southbrook Club Rooms, home of Saracens Rugby Club. The Club has been very generous in accommodating us and it’s a familiar place for many of the tamariki, who have older brothers and sisters who play sport there.”

“We were conscious of trying to minimize disruption to our Kidsfirst King Street families, so we relocated over the term break. Thanks to this amazing teaching team and the goodwill of the families it has all gone smoothly,” adds Jenny.
