A community stand out.
Lincoln Kindergarten opened in 1984 and since then has been a big part of the Lincoln community. Lincoln has also been one of the Association's most stand out achievers particularly in the area of environment and sustainability.
2009 saw Kidfirst Lincoln become the first early childhood centre in the country to achieve GreenGold Award status as part of the Enviroschools programme. Natural and lush outdoor spaces is something our Association has cherished since the very early days.
Of course in the early days it was still very hands on, but on a much smaller scale. Diana Weir remembers being asked in her interview to be accepted as a student, if she liked gardening. "Because we used to do all the upkeep of the kindergarten," Diana explains, "All the gardens, the painting, we even painted the walls of the kindergarten."
With more information and technology today, its great to see our kindergartens, like Lincoln, maintaining that hands-on, practical experience but with more focus on recycling and awareness of our surroundings.
Our website uses material from the Canterbury Westland Kindergarten Association's own archives, Kindergarten Chronicles and other CWFKA publications, and those sourced from the kindys themselves.
