It may cost nothing more for children to stay longer (up to six hours per day) at our kindergartens...
your child could attend for up to 30 hours per week for FREE.
Why are we doing this?
At Kidsfirst Kindergartens we understand how tough the past couple of years have been for many of our parents. So we think it’s time to give back.
We want to acknowledge our loyal parents and the support we get from our communities. We know that many people are struggling following the tragedy of Pike River and the ongoing dramas caused by the earthquakes . . . and we want to do our bit.
How can we afford to do this?
We are a not-for-profit organisation, which means that any money we don’t spend, goes into kindergarten-based initiatives to benefit early childhood education in our regions.
Like any responsible organisation, we keep a buffer of funding (reserves) at all times for emergencies or to put in place special projects or initiatives, for example, building a new kindergarten, ICT upgrades and so on.
In this instance, the Kidsfirst Board has set aside enough funding to ensure that Christchurch and West Coast children can continue to have access to kindergarten education in light of the hardships facing these communities. This funding covers the parent portion of any fees over and above the government’s 20 Hours ECE – effectively making kindergarten entirely free for all children in our region, for a 12 month period. At the end of this period the Board will again review its priorities for the organisation’s reserves.
How long is this offer available?
As it currently stands, the “No Fees” offer is for a limited time only. It is due to finish in July 2016.
Which children qualify?
All children currently attending our kindergartens and early learning centre have the potential to qualify, subject to some terms and conditions. This also includes children under the age of three years as well as children aged over five years.
What are the terms and conditions that will apply?
Any children who are three, four, or five years of age and are eligible for 20 Hours ECE from the Ministry of Education, and use those hours only with a Kidsfirst kindergarten i.e. we are getting their 20 Hours ECE.
Children who are not using all their 20 Hours ECE with us are still eligible to attend for FREE for the hours that they are using (and their parents and caregivers might like to increase their hours up to 20 hours if places are available).
Children under the age of three years will no longer attract a fee for their hours, on the understanding that parents and caregivers will commit to use their child’s 20 Hours ECE with Kidsfirst when their child becomes eligible.
The maximum number of free hours per day is limited to six (6).
Settlement or regular repayments of any outstanding debt must be in place before a parent/caregiver can take advantage of the “No Fees” offer. Failure to get up with regular payments may jeopardise the “No Fees” offer.
Regular attendance is expected and frequent absences may jeopardise the “No Fees” offer.
How many extra hours under the “No Fees” offer can a child attending one of our kindergartens get?
This will totally depend on the available hours at your kindergarten. The maximum number of FREE hours available to an individual child, however, will be limited to six hours per day.
