Our Education Service Manager, or ESM, is an important member of our teaching team.  Based at Kidsfirst Head Office, she is on site regularly to observe our programme, give us feedback and professional support, and encourage us toward continuous educational improvement. Please feel free to talk with her about your child’s kindergarten/centre experience..

Our ESM is Lyndell Turner

Our Session Times

Your child can come to our kindergarten for up to 6 hours a day, Monday to Friday, during our 4 kindergarten terms.
These terms echo the terms your child will have when they start school.

You can read more here about what's been happening in our archive of stories about Kidsfirst Kindergartens, the fun we have, the processes and learning outcomes that result and why we're such a great start for your child.

Our Routines

Our days follow a regular routine, with time set aside for a number of activities. Detailed below are examples of the key focus times. For more information about the daily routine and kindergarten policies, please see our notice board.

Group Time

Mat times are an important part of the kindergarten session where we share stories and learning. This helps children to develop their concentration skills and learn to express themselves in a large group. You are welcome to sit on the mat to support your child and join in if you would like.

Kai Time

Children bring a healthy lunch box with food for morning tea and lunch. Suggestions are posted in the kitchen.

Tidy-Up Time

This part of our day is where we encourage children to help put equipment away, wipe tables and generally tidy up. We appreciate any assistance from parents – please let us know if you would like to help.

Recyclables

We appreciate donations of natural resources for the collage and science areas - also film canisters, fabric, grocery boxes and washed milk bottle tops. We accept anything except toilet rolls, chemical and medicine containers. Natural materials are always in demand, e.g. shells or driftwood, so please keep this in mind on your trips to the beach.

Washing

We do not have washing facilities at kindergarten, rather we are assisted by parents who volunteer to do our laundry. Laundry bags are left in the foyer for volunteers to pick up - please refer to our laundry hygiene procedure.

Our Pets

We currently have a pet budgie and some goldfish who need a home away from kindergarten during the term breaks and on the weekends.

Parent Library

We have a collection of books, DVD's and pamphlets on parenting issues as well as children’s growth and development. These are located in the entrance foyer. Please record any items that you borrow. There are also many other items of interest, which you are welcome to use. Please inform us of any requests for inclusion in the library.

Lost Property

A lost property box is located in the entrance foyer. Please check it regularly.

Birthdays

We celebrate your child’s 5th birthday at the farewell mat time with a play dough cake, which they help to make at kindergarten.

What Food To Bring

Children are required to bring a named lunch box with healthy food for morning kai time and lunch. Drinks are not required as they are provided. Please make us aware of any special dietary requirements and allergies. Education about suitable foods is available. Our Statement of Practice - Food and Nutrition supports this daily routine.

We suggest that a healthy snack may include the following:

  • A sandwich and a piece of fruit
  • Crackers/fruit
  • Cheese slice and a piece of fruit
  • A small muffin and a piece of fruit
  • Dried fruit and cheese

However, the following are not nutritionally recommended;

  • Muesli bars/chocolate biscuits
  • Chocolate/sweets/chips
  • Fruit strings/roll ups
  • High sugar additive drinks
  • Pies or pastry products
