Our Education Service Manager, or ESM, is an important member of our teaching team.  Based at Kidsfirst Head Office, she is on site regularly to observe our programme, give us feedback and professional support, and encourage us toward continuous educational improvement. Please feel free to talk with her about your child’s kindergarten/centre experience..

Our ESM is Keryn Barlow

You can read more here about what's been happening in our archive of stories about Kidsfirst Kindergartens, the fun we have, the processes and learning outcomes that result and why we're such a great start for your child.

NAU MAI, TAUTI MAI, HAERE MAI • WELCOME!

You’ll find our newly-renovated kindergarten directly opposite the Westland Recreation Centre on Shakespeare St, at the end of a long driveway - away from the hustle and bustle of town life. We are licenced for children aged 2 – 5 years, and our skilled and experienced teachers look forward to working collaboratively with you to ensure your time at Kidsfirst Kindergartens Greymouth is full of fun and learning. It is our wairua (spirit) that makes us unique, and we’re proud that when you walk through our gates you will feel and see kaiako (teachers) and ngā tamariki (children) showing respect, caring, and kindness towards others (Manaakitanga).

Inside, our kindergarten is a stunning, spacious, child-centred, modern learning environment that is accessible and engaging for all children aged from two years through to school age to explore and engage in play experiences with and alongside each other. Children can choose from a wide range of resources and equipment:  there are quiet, creative and imaginative play areas and learning occurs in all spaces at your child’s pace.   Our skilled and experienced teaching team is committed to supporting each child to gain the ability to work, learn, and get along with others while being in a caring, stable and happy environment. Time spent at Kidsfirst Kindergartens Greymouth will help to spark and focus your child’s curiosity and natural love of learning.

Kidsfirst Kindergartens Greymouth is set in spacious grounds that reflect the beautiful, natural west coast environment. We have a classic kiwi big backyard with lots of natural shade from wonderful, big trees, and our playground provides challenges and endless opportunities for curiosity and exploration.

We have an ‘open door’ approach - whānau are welcome to stay at any time. The notion of community and connectedness is important here, it’s at the heart of what we do. We value the partnerships we build with our whānau/families, and look forward to making new connections, embracing the multiculturalism and diversity of our community.  Our families, past and present, are an important part of our kindergarten life.  We value this greatly and we encourage family/ whānau and community to visit and take part in the children’s kindergarten day, sharing their skills and culture too. We also understand the pressures on working parents – there is no pressure for you to stay.  You can be involved whenever it suits you.

You will see us out and about visiting in our local area, supporting our tamariki to strengthen the connection they have within their local community and to further explore this setting in their role as caretakers (kaitiaki) of our environment. Strong links with our local primary schools help to support the transition to school for you and your child, as he/she moves on from kindergarten.

Our kindergarten operates for six hours each day, from 8.30am – 2.30pm. This works really well if you have older children going to school as you can do the drop offs and pick-ups at the same time.

We would recommend that you enrol for at least two full days – building up to five days.  This gives our teachers time to get to know your child and gives some consistency around supporting their learning.  It’s hard for our teachers to do this with just a few hours here and there.

Come in any time – we’ll show you around and make you welcome!
