Our Education Service Manager, or ESM, is an important member of our teaching team.  Based at Kidsfirst Head Office, she is on site regularly to observe our programme, give us feedback and professional support, and encourage us toward continuous educational improvement. Please feel free to talk with her about your child’s kindergarten/centre experience..

Our ESM is Nicki Chapman

Our Session Times

Your child can come to our kindergarten for up to 6 hours a day, Monday to Friday, during our 4 kindergarten terms.
These terms echo the terms your child will have when they start school.

You can read more here about what's been happening in our archive of stories about Kidsfirst Kindergartens, the fun we have, the processes and learning outcomes that result and why we're such a great start for your child.

Our Routines

Our days follow a regular routine, with time set aside for a number of activities. Detailed below are examples of the key focus times.  For more information about the daily routine and kindergarten policies, please see our notice board inside our kindergarten or talk to one of our teachers.

Mat/Group Time

Mat times are an important part of the kindergarten session where we share stories and sing songs. This helps children to develop their concentration skills and learn to express themselves in a large group. You are welcome to sit on the mat to support your child and join in.

Kai Time

We see this as a social experience where children and teachers sit together.

Tidy-Up Time

This part of our day is where we encourage children to help put equipment away, wipe tables and generally tidy up.  We appreciate any assistance from parents.

Library Time

This is a weekly event, where children are able to take two books home. The purpose of this is to encourage responsibility, respect for books, and an awareness of routines.

Baking

Baking is included in our programme.

Parent Group

Our parent group has fun working together, having some input into purchasing new equipment and generally raising funds for the kindergarten. If you would like to know more or would like to join, please talk to a teacher.

Parking

Parents are asked not to park in the staff car park, or over the yellow lines.

Washing

We do not have washing facilities at kindergarten, rather we are assisted by parents who collect the washing as required.

Lost Property

A lost property box is located in the sun room.

Birthdays

We celebrate your child’s 5th birthday at a time suitable for the family, with a birthday crown and a dough cake, which s/he helps to make at kindergarten.

What Food To Bring

Children are required to bring a named container with healthy snacks for their morning tea. Drinks are not required as they are provided. Children staying for lunch will also require a packed lunch in a named lunch box. Please remember we do encourage healthy eating. We recommend sending food that can be managed independently by children as you would in a school lunch. Remember, schools do not offer refrigeration or reheating facilities. Please make us aware of any special dietary requirements or allergies.

We suggest that a healthy snack may include the following:

  • Sandwich and a piece of fruit

However, the following are discouraged:

  • Muesli bars/chocolate biscuits
  • Chocolate/sweets
  • Chips
