Our Education Service Manager, or ESM, is an important member of our teaching team.  Based at Kidsfirst Head Office, she is on site regularly to observe our programme, give us feedback and professional support, and encourage us toward continuous educational improvement. Please feel free to talk with her about your child’s kindergarten/centre experience..

Our ESM is Susan Szentivanyi

Previously Kidsfirst Charles St, the renamed Kidsfirst Kaiapoi North kindergarten is now based close to the domain and park to create a perfect kindergarten setting.

Our Session Times

Your child can come to our kindergarten for up to 6 hours a day, Monday to Friday, during our 4 kindergarten terms.
These terms echo the terms your child will have when they start school.

You can read more here about what's been happening in our archive of stories about Kidsfirst Kindergartens, the fun we have, the processes and learning outcomes that result and why we're such a great start for your child.

Our Routines

Our days follow a regular routine, with time set aside for a number of activities. Detailed below are examples of the key focus times. For more information about the daily routine and kindergarten policies, please see our notice board inside our kindergarten or talk to one of our teachers.

Mat/Group Time

Children are welcomed to together times before morning tea and after lunch. These are fun interactive experiences that enhance and develop children's learning.

Kai Time

We see this as a social experience. Children are supervised at all times.

Tidy-Up Time

This part of our day is where we encourage children to help put equipment away, wipe tables and generally tidy up. We appreciate any assistance from parents – please let us know if you would like to help.

Enviroschools Programme

Our kindergarten practices sustainability - we have our own vegetable garden, pets, wormery, composting, and recycling.

Parent Library

We have a collection of books, videos and pamphlets on parenting issues as well as children’s growth and development. These are located near the kitchen in the children’s book area. Please record any items that you borrow in the notebook, and return them in 2 weeks

Lost Property

Lost property box is kept in a basket inside the entry door.

We celebrate your child’s 5th birthday at the farewell mat time with a diploma and a dough cake, which s/he helps to make at kindergarten.

What Food To Bring

Children staying all day need two named lunchboxes. Those children staying a half day, need just one named lunchbox. The teacher will share with you on the first day where these are to be stored. We encourage healthy eating.

Nut Free Zone

Don’t forget that our kindergartens are nut free zones, so please check that all items do not contain any traces of peanuts/nuts.
