Our Education Service Manager, or ESM, is an important member of our teaching team.  Based at Kidsfirst Head Office, she is on site regularly to observe our programme, give us feedback and professional support, and encourage us toward continuous educational improvement. Please feel free to talk with her about your child’s kindergarten/centre experience..

Our ESM is Susan Szentivanyi

Our Session Times

Your child can come to our kindergarten for up to 6 hours a day, Monday to Friday, during our 4 kindergarten terms.
These terms echo the terms your child will have when they start school.

You can read more here about what's been happening in our archive of stories about Kidsfirst Kindergartens, the fun we have, the processes and learning outcomes that result and why we're such a great start for your child.

Our Routines

Our days follow a regular routine, with time set aside for a number of activities. Detailed below are examples of the key focus times. For more information about the daily routine and kindergarten policies, please see our notice board at our kindergarten or talk to one of our teachers.

Mat/Group Time

Mat times are an important part of the kindergarten session where we share stories, music, discuss current topics/interests and news. Mat times support the children to develop concentration skills, confidence in expressing themselves in a group situation and to create a sense of belonging.

Regular attendance is paramount for your child to be able to explore the programme, makes friends and to learn. Please let us know if your child is going to be absent, it is important to sign your child in on arrival and out when collecting your child.

Kai Time

Children are encouraged to bring a named lunch box with a healthy snack for morning tea and lunch. The lunch box is to be placed on the table by the kitchen. This enables the teachers to ensure that the children have kai during session. We provide drinking water so drink bottles are not needed. Please make us aware of any special dietary requirements or allergies. We encourage healthy eating to support children’s well-being. Sandwiches, fruit, cheese and crackers are encouraged (please remember: no nuts). Chocolate, sweets, chips, etc. are not encouraged.

Tidy-Up Time

This part of our day is where we encourage children to help put equipment away, wipe tables and generally tidy up. We appreciate any assistance from parents – please let us know if you would like to help.

Profile Books - Assessment

Your child’s learning is recorded in his/her profile book, which can be found on the bookshelf by the kitchen. We welcome your contribution to your child’s book by commenting on the stories written or by adding stories about family experiences.

Parent Committee

The Parent Committee meets a couple of times a term and organises events to raise funds to support the teachers in providing a challenging and well-resourced learning environment for your child. The group is reliant on support by parent participation. Information about the group can be found on the outside notice board. Join the group and make new friends!

Parents are welcome to contribute to our collage area. We collect magazines, film canisters, fabric and milk bottle tops etc. We accept anything except toilet rolls and medicine containers. Natural materials are always in demand e.g. shells or driftwood, so please keep this in mind on your trips/outings.

Kindergarten parents are allowed to park outside the kindergarten or in the adjacent carpark.

We do not have washing facilities at kindergarten, rather we are assisted by parents who collect the washing during the week as needed. We value your support with this.

Please remember to dress your child in suitable clothing that is likely to get dirty, and bring a set of spare clothes to change in to. As we are outside most days, children need to wear sunhats in summer, and jackets and hats or raincoats and gumboots in winter.

Lost Property

A lost property box is located under the verandah. At the end of term unclaimed items will be given to charity.

We celebrate your child’s 5th birthday on their last day with a special card and a dough cake, which s/he helps to make at kindergarten. Parents are welcome to donate a small gift for the kindergarten.

Nut Free Zone

A reminder that the kindergarten is a peanut/nut free zone, this is to support our children with allergies. So please check that all food items do not contain traces of nuts.
