Kia ora - welcome
Kidsfirst Kindergartens West Rolleston.
Our newest kindergarten will give local children the best kind of start in their early childhood education... with everything that's great about Kidsfirst. We're looking forward to our first children walking through our doors on 16th October, at the start of Term 4.
The brand new, state of the art facility is located right by the new West Rolleston school. Expected to open in Term Four of this year, the kindergarten will cater for up to forty children aged 2 – 5 years.
The land has been blessed by Kaumātua from Te Taumutu Rūnanga, and Opus architectural plans are complete for a site specific design on the corner of Bethany Road and Granite Drive that will be an exciting new addition to the local Rolleston community and bring a new standard of early childhood education to the area.
Rolleston’s newest learners can look forward to an attractive, light, spacious and environmentally friendly building within a huge outdoor garden and playground area that maximizes use of our Kidsfirst Design Principles
“Our kindergartens need to be inspirational places that bring people together. Places to inspire and empower children, to enhance learning and teaching, and to welcome new and existing families,” says Kidsfirst Business Development Manager Jenny Pitama.
Plans for the outdoor area include a natural, native landscaped garden complete with specially designed activity spaces which will to provide challenges and opportunities for risk-taking and fun - with quiet and reflective spaces too.
The kindergarten will be a community place, reflective of our New Zealand heritage and our bicultural commitment and the wairua (spirit) of it’s locality.
If you think it'd be great for your child to come here, email us and register your interest now. We'll keep you personally informed about what's happening.
We want to make this quality education possible for every child in New Zealand. That’s why tamariki can come to Kidsfirst Kindergartens for up to six free hours each and every day, which means kindergarten can be free for all children!
We’re committed to giving our very youngest learners a great start through exploration, play and making learning fun. Early Childhood Education sets the foundations for a lifetime of learning, and research shows that 90% of children’s brain development occurs in the first five years of their lives.
We believe in 100% qualified teachers and wonderful, stimulating learning environments with natural, challenging outdoor spaces that have plenty of things to create and build with. After over 100 years and more than 70 kindergartens throughout Canterbury, the West Coast and Otago, we’re proud of the generations of smiling faces, our passionate teachers, and to be recognised at the heart of our neighbourhoods. We’re looking forward to bringing all of this to the Rolleston community and to start a rich kindergarten tradition in our newest neighbourhood.
At kindergarten, children play and develop alongside their peers, with the support of teachers, whānau and a cooperative, engaged community. They’re encouraged to try new things, and dig deeper into what they’re curious about – whether that be how a caterpillar evolves into a butterfly, or experimenting with song, dance and costume. Children from two to five years come away with a wide breadth of skills, ready for school and the many further learning opportunities ahead.
Kidsfirst West Rolleston is currently under construction and making great progress.
It's expected to be open for tamariki
