Our Session Times
Your child can come to our kindergarten for up to 6 hours a day, Monday to Friday, during our 4 kindergarten terms.
You can read more here about what's been happening in our archive of stories about Kidsfirst Kindergartens, the fun we have, the processes and learning outcomes that result and why we're such a great start for your child.
Our days follow a regular routine, with time set aside for a number of activities. Detailed below are examples of the key focus times. For more information about the daily routine and kindergarten policies, please refer to the policies folder on the sign in table.
This is each Wednesday morning, between 8.30 and 9.00, and is located on the round table as you walk in. Please remove the card from the selected book, write your child’s name along with the date, and place the card into the brown box. When the book is returned, place the card back into the book. This is a great opportunity for you and your child to share a rich literacy experience.
Mat times are an important part of the kindergarten session where we share stories and sing songs. This helps children to develop their concentration skills and learn to express themselves in a large group. You are welcome to sit on the mat to support your child and join in. Children are invited to bring in articles from home relating to the programme focus and the children's interest.
Teachers sit with children to encourage healthy eating and conversation, and will support children as they open containers and eat.
This part of our day is where we encourage children to help put equipment away, wipe tables and generally tidy up. We appreciate any assistance from parents – please let us know if you would like to help.
Once a week we do baking with the children.
On the wall in the collage area is an extensive list of materials we collect such as magazines, film canisters, fabric and milk container lids. We accept anything except toilet rolls and medicine containers. Natural materials are always in demand e.g. shells or driftwood, so please keep this in mind on your trips to the beach.
We do not have washing facilities at kindergarten, rather we have a washing roster. Each week two people will be asked to take the washing bag for the week.
We currently have a pet bird named Charlie as well as some fish. If you would like to take any of them home for the holidays please talk to one of the teachers.
We have a collection of books, videos and pamphlets on parenting issues as well as children’s growth and development. The books and videos are located to the left of the kitchen door. Please record any items that you borrow on the card inside the books and videos. The pamphlets are located by the sign in table.
A lost property box is located on the shelf on the sign out table on the verandah.
We celebrate your child’s 5th birthday at the farewell mat time with a special dough cake, which s/he helps to make at kindergarten, and songs.
Nut Free Zone
Don’t forget that our kindergartens are nut free zones, so please don't bring nut products with your child to kindergarten.
