Our Session Times
Your child can come to our kindergarten for up to 6 hours a day, Monday to Friday, during our 4 kindergarten terms. These terms echo the terms your child will have when they start school. We can usually be flexible with the sessions you would like your child to attend but some restrictions may apply. Please talk to one of our teachers regarding the hours you would like for your child.
You can read more here about what's been happening in our archive of stories about Kidsfirst Kindergartens, the fun we have, the processes and learning outcomes that result and why we're such a great start for your child.
Our days follow a regular routine, with time set aside for a number of activities. For more detailed information about the daily routine and kindergarten policies, please see our notice board or talk to staff.
Mat times are an important part of the kindergarten session where we share stories and sing songs. This helps children to develop their concentration skills and learn to express themselves in a large group.
Teachers often sit with children and always encourage healthy eating and good manners. Children will be supported as they learn this routine.
What Food To Bring
Children are required to bring a named lunch box with healthy snacks for their morning and afternoon tea. Some suggestions are - sandwiches, crackers, cheese, fruit, vege sticks, raisins etc. We prefer treat foods like biscuits, chocolate, cake and chippies to be kept for home. A named water bottle is also required. Please make us aware of any special dietary requirements and allergies.
This part of our day is where we encourage children to help put equipment away, wipe tables and generally tidy up. We appreciate any assistance from parents - please see staff if you can help.
Monday is library day and morning children are able to borrow three books each week. If you are able to help (no experience required) please see staff. Your child will need a library bag. These are for sale at the kindergarten.
We collect many different materials for our collage area such as cereal boxes, yoghurt pottles, magazines, fabric and milk bottle tops. We accept anything except toilet rolls, and medicine/chemical containers. Natural materials are always in demand e.g. shells or driftwood, so please keep this in mind on your trips to the beach.
We do not have washing facilities at kindergarten, rather we are assisted by parents who collect the weekly washing each Thursday/Friday. Please add your name to the parent washing roster if you can help.
We have pets and we require fresh food (carrots, silverbeet, parsley, apples etc) every day. We have a roster for taking the pets home at the weekend and for holidays. See staff for details.
We have a collection of books and pamphlets on parenting issues as well as children’s growth and development. These are located on the shelves beside the main entrance. Please record any items that you borrow. There are also many other items of interest, which you are welcome to use.
Lost property is located in the drawers of the signing-in cabinet outside the front entrance.
We celebrate your child’s 5th birthday at a farewell mat time with a dough cake and special certificates. You are invited to join us for your child's celebration.
Nut Free Zone
Our kindergarten is a nut free zone so please check that all food items do not contain any peanuts or nuts.
Please pack a spare set of clothes in your child's bag every day.
