Our Session Times
Your child can come to our kindergarten for up to 6 hours a day, Monday to Friday, during our 4 kindergarten terms.
Each afternoon we set time aside for staff meetings, children’s assessments and programme planning, administration, professional development and various other duties.
All teachers are registered with the New Zealand Teachers Council. Each year teachers are assessed in their teaching practice against a set of professional standards for kindergarten teachers.
You can read more here about what's been happening in our archive of stories about Kidsfirst Kindergartens, the fun we have, the processes and learning outcomes that result and why we're such a great start for your child.
Our days follow a regular routine, with time set aside for a number of activities. For more detailed information about the daily routine and kindergarten programme plans, please see our notice board.
Mat times are an important part of the kindergarten session where we share stories, sing songs and provide opportunity for the children to contribute. Generally a group time is planned early in the session to welcome the children and introduce the programme for the day. Children come together at the end of the day to ensure all are farewell safely. You are welcome to join group time to support your child if you would like to.
Teachers supervise children during lunch, morning and afternoon tea, encouraging and supporting them to develop independence during the kai routine.
A quiet space will be available to children following lunch for undisturbed comfortable rest should they need it.
This part of our day is where we encourage children to help put equipment away, wipe tables and generally tidy up. We appreciate any assistance from parents at this busy time.
Kindergarten parents are requested not to park across the entrance to the kindergarten. This must remain free at all times for access to the kindergarten, i.e. for emergency response vehicles, etc.
We have a collection of books and phamplets on a variety of topics of interest to parents of young children. These library resources are located in the office. Any of the teachers can assist you if necessary and you are asked to record any books borrowed. Thank you.
A lost property box is located on the shelf under the sign in bench.
We celebrate your child’s 5th birthday at a farewell mat time with their friends. Parents are invited to be part of this occasion.
What Food To Bring
Children are required to bring a named lunch box with healthy food options for lunch. Please provide a snack for morning/afternoon tea in a small separate container. Water is available at all times.
Please make us aware of any special dietary requirements and allergies.
Nut Free Zone
In respect of children with a high allergy to nuts, we request that you do not provide foods with peanuts, or traces of nut products in them, to eat at kindergarten. The teachers are happy to talk further with you about this if you have any concerns.
