Our Session Times
Your child can come to our kindergarten for up to 6 hours a day, Monday to Friday, during our 4 kindergarten terms.
Children do not attend from 2.30pm each afternoon as this is the time we set aside for staff meetings, programme planning, administration and various other duties.
You can read more here about what's been happening in our archive of stories about Kidsfirst Kindergartens, the fun we have, the processes and learning outcomes that result and why we're such a great start for your child.
Our days follow a regular routine, with time set aside for a number of activities. For more detailed information about the daily routine and kindergarten policies, please see our notice board.
Mat times are an important part of the kindergarten session where we share stories and sing songs. This helps children to develop their concentration skills and learn to express themselves in a large group. If you arrive after a mat time has started, please enter and ask your child to join the mat quietly as children are easily distracted.
Teachers sit with children to encourage healthy eating and conversation, and will support children as they open containers and eat.
This part of our day is where we encourage children to help put equipment away, wipe tables and generally tidy up. We appreciate any assistance from parents – please let us know if you would like to help.
We can use almost anything, so please don’t throw it away before considering us. Clean yoghurt pottles, bottle tops, boxes, wool and sheepskin, cardboard, paper and untreated wood for carpentry. Please no toilet rolls, detergent containers, milk cartons or medicine boxes. Natural materials are always in demand e.g. shells or driftwood, so please keep this in mind on your trips to the beach.
We do not have washing facilities at kindergarten, rather we are assisted by parents who collect the weekly washing when required. If you see our washing bag at the front door please help us by taking it home to wash.
When parking outside kindergarten, please be very considerate of local businesses and residents.
We have a collection of books, videos and pamphlets on parenting issues as well as children’s growth and development. These are located at the end of our children’s bookshelf. Please record any items you borrow in the notebook. There are also many other items of interest, which you are welcome to borrow.
A lost property box is located under the sign in table at the front entrance.
We celebrate your child’s 5th birthday at the farewell mat time with a special hat and dough cake, which s/he helps to make at kindergarten. Please let us know if this is not appropriate (e.g. for religious reasons). Parents are welcome to provide a gift for kindergarten. Please no cakes or sweets.
What Food To Bring
Children are required to bring a named lunch box and drink bottle with healthy snacks for their morning tea and lunch. Please make us aware of any special dietary requirements and allergies.
We promote education rather than banning, but due to sticky residue we do not allow peanut butter or peanuts at
We suggest that a healthy snack may include the following:
However, the following are not allowed:
