Our Session Times
Your child can come to our kindergarten for up to 6 hours a day, Monday to Friday, during our 4 kindergarten terms.
You can read more here about what's been happening in our archive of stories about Kidsfirst Kindergartens, the fun we have, the processes and learning outcomes that result and why we're such a great start for your child.
Our days follow a regular routine, with time set aside for a number of activities. Detailed below are examples of the key focus times. For more information about the daily routine and kindergarten policies, please see our notice board.
Group times are an important part of the kindergarten day where we share information. This helps children to develop their concentration skills and learn to express themselves in a large group. Our main group time of the day is at 9.00am and we appreciate it if parents recognise this as a time of learning.
Teachers sit with children to encourage healthy eating and conversation. Children have morning kai and lunch together.
This part of our day is where we encourage children to help put equipment away, wipe tables and generally tidy up. We appreciate any assistance from parents – please let us know if you would like to help.
We welcome and value your support and invite you to be part of the programme. Please know you are very welcome to join us at any time during the session. We welcome your contribution to your child's profile book, which is located in the parent library area. At regular intervals throughout the year you will be invited to be involved in our self review process.
How Parents Access Information
Our Parent Noticeboard beide the kitchen has useful, up to date information for you. There is also additional information in our Parent Library area. Please take the time to read through statements and policies and if the information you require is not there, staff are only too happy to help you in any way possible.
On the Parent Noticeboard is also a list of communicable diseases and the incubation period. Please do not send your child along if unwell, as illness an quickly spread. If your child becomes unwell at kindergarten, we will call you to collect your child as soon as possible. A staff member will comfort your child in the quiet area of the parent library until you are able to come. All sickness, injury or changing of children is recorded in our Health & Medical record book and you will be asked to sign this if required.
If your child needs medication administered during the session, two forms need to be completed before staff can carry this out. One form by a doctor and the other is a medication action plan that needs to be completed by a parent or guardian.
On the wall in the collage area is an extensive list of materials we collect such as magazines, film canisters, fabric and milk bottle tops. We accept anything except toilet rolls and medicine containers. Natural materials are always in demand e.g. shells or driftwood, so please keep this in mind on your trips to the beach.
Please ensure both gates are closed when arriving and leaving and only let children in your care through the gate. Plants along the drive may be toxic and children are encouraged not to eat them.
We have a collection of books on parenting issues as well as children’s growth and development. These are located on the bookshelf at the end of the kindergarten. There is a notebook to sign when borrowing a book. Please return books within 3 weeks.
A lost property box is located in the hallway by the office. At the end of each term lost property is displayed and unclaimed items placed in a clothing bin.
We celebrate your child’s 5th birthday at the farewell mat time with a special card and a dough cake, which s/he helps to make at kindergarten. Parents are welcome to share this special time and information on routines is given to individual children as their birthday approaches.
What Food To Bring
Children are required to bring a named lunch box and water bottle for their morning kai and lunch. Healthy options please. No yoghurt, and water only. Children place their lunch box on the verandah as they arrive at kindergarten.
We do not have washing facilities at kindergarten, rather we are assisted by parents who collect the weekly washing each Friday. Parents are rostered for this duty and will be notified when their turn comes.
