Our Education Service Manager, or ESM, is an important member of our teaching team.  Based at Kidsfirst Head Office, she is on site regularly to observe our programme, give us feedback and professional support, and encourage us toward continuous educational improvement. Please feel free to talk with her about your child’s kindergarten/centre experience..

Our ESM is Susan Szentivanyi

Our Session Times

Your child can come to our kindergarten for up to 6 hours a day, Monday to Friday, during our 4 kindergarten terms.
These terms echo the terms your child will have when they start school.

You can read more here about what's been happening in our archive of stories about Kidsfirst Kindergartens, the fun we have, the processes and learning outcomes that result and why we're such a great start for your child.

Our Routines

Our days follow a regular routine, with time set aside for a number of activities. For more detailed information about the daily routine and kindergarten policies, please see a teacher.

Mat/Group Time

Whānau times are an important part of the kindergarten session where we share daily happenings, stories and sing songs. This helps children to develop their concentration skills and learn to express themselves in a large group. You are welcome to sit on the whānau mat to support your child and join in if you would like.

Kai Time

Children sit at the kai table and eat food they bring from home. Teachers will encourage healthy eating. Lunch time - children sit together as a group at midday to eat their lunch.

Tidy-Up Time

This part of our day is where we encourage children to help put equipment away, wipe tables and generally tidy up. We appreciate any assistance from parents.

We accept recyclable materials such as magazines, wool, film canisters, fabric and milk bottle tops. We accept anything except toilet rolls, glass containers and medicine containers. Natural materials are always in demand e.g. shells, driftwood or acorns, so please keep this in mind on your trips to nature areas.

Kindergarten parents can park outside the kindergarten or in nearby streets. There is a 1-hour car parking restriction directly outside the kindergarten. It is against the law to leave children unattended in the car.

We do not have washing facilities at kindergarten, rather we appreciate it when parents take a bag of laundry home to wash occasionally.

Our Pets

We have pets at our kindergarten, which you are welcome to take home for the weekend and/or the holidays. Ask a staff member.

Parent Library

We have a collection of books and pamphlets on parenting issues, children’s growth and development and local schools. These are located in the parent area. If you borrow a book, please advise a staff member.

Lost Property

A lost property box is located in the locker room. Please check it regularly and take home only your child’s belongings.

Please bring a named change of clothes to kindergarten for your child.

We celebrate your child’s 5th birthday at the farewell mat time with a special hat and a dough cake, which s/he helps to make at kindergarten.

What Food To Bring

Children are required to bring a named lunch box with healthy snacks and a drink bottle for their morning tea, lunch and/or afternoon tea. Please make us aware of any special dietary requirements and allergies.

We suggest that a healthy snack may include the following:

  • A sandwich and a piece of fruit
  • Biscuit/cracker/fruit
  • Cheese and a piece of fruit
  • A small muffin and a piece of fruit
  • Dried fruit and cheese
  • Small yoghurt
