Our Education Service Manager, or ESM, is an important member of our teaching team.  Based at Kidsfirst Head Office, she is on site regularly to observe our programme, give us feedback and professional support, and encourage us toward continuous educational improvement. Please feel free to talk with her about your child’s kindergarten/centre experience..

Our ESM is Susan Szentivanyi

Our Session Times

Your child can come to our kindergarten for up to 6 hours a day, Monday to Friday, during our 4 kindergarten terms.
These terms echo the terms your child will have when they start school.

We set aside time on Mondays from 3pm for staff meetings, programme planning, administration and various other duties. We are available to talk with parents and caregivers after session from Tuesday to Friday, so please make an appointment if you would like to do this.

You can read more here about what's been happening in our archive of stories about Kidsfirst Kindergartens, the fun we have, the processes and learning outcomes that result and why we're such a great start for your child.

Our Routines

A free play programme runs throughout the day with a rolling morning tea, and lunch between 12noon and 1pm. A mat time is held at 11.30am, and group activities such as music, games, cooking etc take place during session. For information about routines and policies, please see our notice board

Mat/Group Time

Mat times are an important part of the kindergarten session where we share news, ICT, games, stories and sing songs. This helps children to develop their concentration skills and learn to express themselves in a large group.

Kai Time

Teachers supervise children to encourage healthy eating and conversation, and will support children as they open containers and eat.

Tidy-Up Time

This part of our day is where we encourage children to help put equipment away, wipe tables and generally tidy up. We appreciate any assistance from parents – please let us know if you would like to help.

On the wall in the collage area is a list of materials we collect such as magazines, old birthday or christmas cards, fabric and milk bottle tops. We accept anything except toilet rolls and medicine containers. Natural materials are always in demand e.g. shells, driftwood, wool, seed pods, pinecones, etc. If you are unsure, please see the teachers.

Parent Library

We have a collection of books, videos, DVDs and pamphlets on parenting issues as well as children’s growth and development. These are located by the sign in table. Please record any items that you borrow in the notebook. There are also many other items of interest, which you are welcome to use.

Lost Property

We have a large box for lost property. Any clothing found that is unnamed will be placed in the box. Naming children’s clothing allows the staff to return it promptly.

We celebrate your child’s 5th birthday at the farewell mat time with a special certificate and a dough cake, which s/he helps to make at kindergarten. Parents are welcome to attend the farewell mat time, or provide a small gift for the kindergarten. We ask that no food items be sent at this time.

What Food To Bring

Children are required to bring a named lunch box with healthy food for their morning tea and lunch. Drinks are not required as water is provided. Please make us aware of any special dietary requirements and allergies. For further information see the Food and Nutrition Policy letter.

We suggest that a healthy snack may include the following:

  • A bread item, such as rolls or sandwiches
  • Crackers and cheese
  • Piece of fruit/dried fruit/veges
  • A fruit muffin/yoghurt
  • Plain popcorn
  • Cold meats/hard boiled eggs

However, the following are not recommended:
