Our Education Service Manager, or ESM, is an important member of our teaching team.  Based at Kidsfirst Head Office, she is on site regularly to observe our programme, give us feedback and professional support, and encourage us toward continuous educational improvement. Please feel free to talk with her about your child’s kindergarten/centre experience..

Our ESM is Keryn Barlow

Our Session Times

Your child can come to our kindergarten for up to 6 hours a day, Monday to Friday, during our 4 kindergarten terms.
These terms echo the terms your child will have when they start school.

Between 2.30pm - 4.30pm each day is a non contact, Teacher Time. This time is set aside for staff meetings, programme planning, management/administration tasks, profile books, learning stories, and various other duties.

You can read more here about what's been happening in our archive of stories about Kidsfirst Kindergartens, the fun we have, the processes and learning outcomes that result and why we're such a great start for your child.

Our Routines

Please read our routines on the wall by the kitchen. Morning tea happens at 9.40am. We sit in a group with teachers supporting the children to become self reliant and independent. Lunch time is 11.45am. As above it is in a group situation with support of teachers.

Mat/Group Time

Mat times are an important part of the kindergarten session where we share stories, sing songs and revisit or extend on the learning interests of the children. Mat times help children to develop their concentration skills and learn to express themselves in a large group. Thank you for waiting and watching quietly while children are on the mat.

Kai Time

Morning children bring a snack box and water bottle. Morning tea is at approx 10.00am. We sit in a group with teachers supporting the children to become independent with this routine. Lunch - bring a sandwich, fruit, etc in a named lunch box. (see over the page what food to bring for more information).

Tidy-Up Time

This part of our day is where we encourage children to help put equipment away, wipe tables and generally tidy up. We appreciate any assistance from parents – just ask us for a job if you would like to help.

On the wall in the collage area is an extensive list of materials we collect such as magazines, film canisters, fabric and milk bottle tops. We accept anything except toilet rolls and medicine containers. Natural materials are always in demand e.g. shells or driftwood, so please keep this in mind on your trips to the beach.

This can be an issue, please observe the 10-minute parking zone outside the kindergarten. Our side gate needs to be physically pushed shut. If children swing on the gate/fences it puts them out of alignment and costs money to fix.

We do not have washing facilities at kindergarten, rather we are assisted by parents who collect the weekly washing each Friday. Please add your name to the parent washing roster if you can help out.

Our Pets

We currently have a pet canary called Toru. We also have four fish. During the term breaks we will need homes for our pets.

Parent Library

We have a collection of books, videos and pamphlets on parenting issues as well as children’s growth and development. These are located near the puzzle area. Please record any items that you borrow in the notebook. There are also many other items of interest, which you are welcome to use.

Lost Property

Any lost property is hung up on the clothes line in the children’s toilet area. At the end of each term it is disposed of, so please check it regularly.

We celebrate your child’s 5th birthday at the farewell mat time with a special group time and a dough cake, which s/he helps to make at kindergarten. Parents are welcome to spend their child’s last day with us. No food or treats please. If you wish to buy a gift for the kindy, see us for ideas.
