Our Education Service Manager, or ESM, is an important member of our teaching team.  Based at Kidsfirst Head Office, she is on site regularly to observe our programme, give us feedback and professional support, and encourage us toward continuous educational improvement. Please feel free to talk with her about your child’s kindergarten/centre experience..

Our ESM is Susan Szentivanyi

Our Session Times

Your child can come to our kindergarten for up to 6 hours a day, Monday to Friday, during our 4 kindergarten terms.
These terms echo the terms your child will have when they start school.

You can read more here about what's been happening in our archive of stories about Kidsfirst Kindergartens, the fun we have, the processes and learning outcomes that result and why we're such a great start for your child.

Our Routines

Our days follow a regular routine, with time set aside for a number of activities that evolve from the children’s interests. Daily routines include whānau time, sharing time, clean up and mat time. For further information about kindergarten procedures and policies, please view our notice board.

Group Time

Mat times are an important part of our kindergarten session where we share stories, learn waiata and discuss topics of interest. This enhances the children’s ability to develop their concentration skills, learn to express themselves in a large group, as well as problem solve and foster higher level thinking. Participation is promoted.

Kai Time

Teachers sit with children to encourage healthy eating and conversation, and will support children to independently open containers and packets, eat and self regulate how much to eat.

Tidy-Up Time

This part of our day is where we encourage children to help put equipment away, wipe tables and generally tidy up. We appreciate any assistance from parents. We encourage and support the children to take responsibility for cleaning up after themselves and to assist others.

We collect magazines, film canisters, fabric and milk bottle tops, etc for the children to use in the collage and carpentry area. We accept anything except toilet rolls and medicine containers. We appreciate natural resources as well, so keep this in mind when going to the beach etc!

Sustainability Programme

We are very committed to sustainability in all aspects of our environment. Our responsibilities are focused on composting, recycling and reducing waste. Growing our own vegetables is an ongoing interest as is caring for our worm farm.

Parent Help

There is a parent help roster were parents can volunteer their time when it suits them, but are always welcome to come along. We value and respect the time and contributions you make to our sessions.

Parking in the staff parking area is not permitted as this is an emergency exit. Please ensure your children’s bikes/scooters are parked outside the gates as opposed to inside. This is for safety reasons.

We do not have washing facilities at kindergarten, therefore, you will be rostered to take the washing home twice while your child is at kindergarten.

Our Pets

We have a pet rabbit at kindergarten. During the holidays, our rabbit needs homes so please see a teacher if you are interested.

If you walk your dog to kindergarten, please secure your pet to the fence away from the entrance to the car park. This will ensure your dog does not frighten the children.

Parent Library

We have a collection of books, videos and pamphlets on parenting issues as well as children’s growth and development. These are located by the sign in table. Please record any items that you borrow in the notebook.

Lost Property

A lost property box is located in the red container by the main door. Please check it regularly.

We celebrate your child’s 5th birthday at a farewell mat time with a special crown and a dough cake, which s/he helps to make at kindergarten. Extended family and friends are, as always, welcome to attend.

What Food To Bring

Both morning and all day children are required to bring a named lunch box with healthy snacks for their morning tea and lunch. Drink bottles are not required as water is provided. Afternoon and all day children bring along a piece of fruit each afternoon they attend, which are pooled for a shared afternoon tea - no lunch box needed for afternoon children. Water is provided. Please make us aware of any special dietary requirements and allergies.

Nut Free Zone

We are a totally nut free kindergarten.
