Our Education Service Manager, or ESM, is an important member of our teaching team.  Based at Kidsfirst Head Office, she is on site regularly to observe our programme, give us feedback and professional support, and encourage us toward continuous educational improvement. Please feel free to talk with her about your child’s kindergarten/centre experience..

Our ESM is Raewyn Penman

Our Session Times

Your child can come to our kindergarten for up to 6 hours a day, Monday to Friday, during our 4 kindergarten terms.

These terms echo the terms your child will have when they start school. We can usually be flexible with the sessions you would like your child to attend but some restrictions may apply, so please talk to one of our teachers.

You can read more here about what's been happening in our archive of stories about Kidsfirst Kindergartens, the fun we have, the processes and learning outcomes that result and why we're such a great start for your child.

Mat/Group Time

Mat times are an important part of the kindergarten session where we share stories and sing songs. This helps children to develop their concentration skills and learn to express themselves in a large group. You are welcome to sit on the mat to support your child and join in if you would like to.

Kai Time

We wash hands and karakia before both kai times. We have a rolling morning tea between 10 - 10.30am. Children are encouraged to choose to eat only one or two items of food from their kai box at this time. Lunch time is at 12.30 - 1pm. This is a social time where we all sit together. Children eat the remainder of their food and then put their boxes in their bags.

Tidy-Up Time

This part of our day is where we encourage children to help put equipment away, wipe tables and generally tidy up. We appreciate any assistance from parents – please let us know if you would like to help.

Recyclables

Here are some ideas of the materials we collect for use with the children: magazines, film canisters, fabric, milk bottle tops and paper. We accept anything except toilet rolls and medicine containers. Natural materials are always in demand e.g. shells or driftwood, so please keep this in mind on your trips to the beach.

Parent Library

We have a collection of books, videos and pamphlets on parenting issues as well as children’s growth and development. These are located near the sign in desk. Please record any items that you borrow in the notebook. There are also many other items of interest, which you are welcome to use.

Lost Property

A lost property box is located under the sign in desk at the front entrance.

Birthdays

We celebrate your child’s 5th birthday at the farewell mat time with a special dough cake, which s/he helps to make at kindergarten. Children are given their whānau board photo and profile book to take home to keep.

What Food To Bring

Children are required to bring a named lunch box with healthy food for their lunch and morning tea. Drinks are not required as they are provided. Please make us aware of any special dietary requirements and allergies.

Healthy lunchbox foods may include:

  • Sandwiches
  • Cut fruit
  • Dried fruit
  • Cold meat
  • Cheese
  • Crackers
  • Plain bars
  • Baking
